BIOSELENA - Foundation for organic agriculture Bioselena
The Foundation for Organic Agriculture Bioselena is a Bulgarian non-governmental organization. The Foundation was established in 1997 by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL – Switzerland. The main objective of Bioselena is to develop and support sustainable and organic agriculture, biodiversity preservation, and environmental protection. Bioselena has been a member of IFOAM since 1999.
- The main activities of Bioselena are:
- Professional training (registered professional training centre since 2003 for farmer training in organic agriculture and agroecology)
- Individual consultancy and advisory services for organic producers, processors, and traders
- Transfer of know-how and innovation in the field of organic farming, on-farm processing, and direct sales
- Participation in policy-making processes, legislation, and measures to support organic and sustainable agriculture
Role in the project
Bioselena will actively participate in all project activities, except for establishing the field trials. The foundation will select 20 farms in Bulgaria and coordinate local exchanges, consultations, and cross-visits. Bulgarian experts and farmers will also join cross-visits in other partner countries. Additionally, Bioselena will be responsible for disseminating project information and results within Bulgaria. A key role for Bioselena is leading Work Package 6, which focuses on training, capacity building, developing informational materials, and fostering cross-fertilization during the post-conversion period.
