EV ILVO - Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (EV ILVO) is an independent research institute of the Flanders Government that focuses on generating knowledge for more sustainability in agriculture, fisheries, and agri-food sectors. Based in Flanders, EV ILVO operates throughout Belgium, Europe, and the rest of the world, with four main units: Plant, Animal, Technology & Food, and Social Sciences. It also features six living labs for co-creative research, connecting researchers, end-users, stakeholders, citizens, and regions.
Role in the project
EV ILVO’s Social sciences unit addresses socio-economic aspects related to agrifood systems and their relation to the countryside and society. This unit has ample expertise in governance, agricultural economics, farm management, social learning, facilitation of co-creation and multistakeholder processes, advisory and innovation systems, and rural development processes, among other things. It is hosting the Living Lab Agroecology and Organic Farming. In OH-FINE, this unit is leading WP3, establishing the OH-FINE Organic Farming Learning Community.
The Plant Sciences Unit of EV ILVO is concerned with sustainable agricultural practices aiming at yield stability and crop quality for the benefit of the producer and the consumer. The unit focuses on developing improved starting material, studying plant-soil interactions in relation to soil management practices, managing diseases and pests through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies, and proactively sharing knowledge through the Plant and Soil Living Lab. In OH-FINE, this unit leads WP7, the establishment of agricultural field trials in the project partner countries.
