HBH - Hooibeekhoeve

Hooibeekhoeve, located in Geel (Province of Antwerp - Belgium), is an independent practice research institute dedicated to dairy farming and fodder crops in the Province of Antwerp. Its core business is to increase the resilience of dairy farming as a sustainable food production system supported by society. The strength of Hooibeekhoeve lies in the combination of plant and animal research on a single experimental farm. The advice given to farmers is based on independent practical research and is never commercially exploited, making the advice very reliable for farmers. Opportunistic and open-minded farmers translate innovations based on Hooibeekhoeves’ experience into common practices in dairy farming. In addition, the research institute is located in the heart of a region specialized in dairy farming in Flanders.

Role in the project

Hooibeekhoeve's main task is to carry out a field trial, organize technical workshops and demonstrations, and create technical documents and a video about this trial. All parts are done in co-creation with farmers, and the subject of the trial is determined by the farmers’ needs. Together with ILVO and Inagro, Hooibeekhoeve is organizing a cross-visit in Belgium.
